a weekend at Mother Millsaps

It's funny what lends itself to a good blog post. We just got back from one of the best (albeit shortest, in Brian's case - thanks a lot, airlines) weekends in a long time. I laughed so hard I nearly peed. I did possibly irreparable damage to my body in the form of a Cool Al's cheeseburger, Julep chicken, OEC fried rice, two Cabot free happy hours and more. In fact, I am literally scarred from the amount of fun I had this weekend.*

But trying to blog it up is nearly impossible. There's too many things that, while hilarious in real life, don't translate well to reading off the screen. Or they only make sense to such a small group of people it would just sound weird to put it out there to the rest of the blogosphere (like that list of foodstuffs in the paragraph above that anyone not familiar with Jackson probably stopped reading after). Blogging about extremely fun, personal things is weirdly self-indulgent. Actually I think all blogging is pretty self-indulgent, but writing about something fun is even more so. It's enjoyable to the writer, but perhaps not so much to the reader.

A random moment or two might float up through the crawfish-filled memories the weekend that will hit the blog, but in general I'll suffice it to say that a) it was extremely weird returning to a campus that is more my home than anywhere yet I haven't stepped foot on since May, b) I have the best sistah family in the entire universe, THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE OKAY, c) the weather in the South is epically beautiful right now and it was especially cruel to return to a 20 degree day, and d) I love my friendys so much and don't know what I would do without them.

We are all so spread apart now, across so many cities and states and even countries. But no matter the distance or the time, some great things never change.

ANYWAY, if you made it through this self-indulgent post (especially if you don't know me, Millsaps or what in the world I've been talking about), I have a reward for you:

That is ED HARDY BEER.
It exists. And surprisingly doesn't taste as much like Jon Gosselin as you'd think.
please excuse my heinous posture, which is giving me
an awesome physique in this particular shot

Ode to a Taiter

So my bestie Tait is engaged!!!

And in honor of getting to see her/coo over her ring/talk about wedding things nonstop this coming weekend I’d like to take this moment to wander down memory lane in poetry form. Sorry in advance, Taiter.

ODE TO A TAITER

Once upon a freshman year, while I stumbled with a beer,
In Sanderson Hall in the Millsaps Bubble sphere
There I met Taiterweiner, my curly-haired dear

I knew at once we had something special
...Too bad nothing rhymes with "special"
what's going on here? are we on the phone to each other?
....I feel like that's something we would do
We bonded over many a Heritage test
Because for nerdy things we are both obsessed
(Even if we went a little crazy when we got stressed)

In NOLA we cemented our friendship
Between demolishing houses and Bourbon St. on a CMT trip

We bunked together in Isla Mujeres, Mexico
And I got to snuggle with a sexy mo
(I'm talking about you, you know)
you are totally flirting with me right now
There were costumes, pranks, formals and dancing shoes
But the best was when we partied in muu muus

Sophomore year things were mostly devine
Especially when we discovered a mutual love of wine
(The theme of the surprise party you threw me for the big one-nine!)

We busted melons as the Spice Girls with our crushes of rush
And put our faces on shirts with fab airbrush

Junior year we played the suitie game
And got way too busy doing our own things – lame!
But no matter how things changed, some things were always the same

Senior year was filled with crafts, laughs and (of course) booze
A freak snowstorm, Stewart/Colbert and debating religion news
what do these things have to do with each other?
I don't know.

But through the years of vodka, tequila and Dom
(I mean Andre), there was one constant – vom

You vommed in the dorm, vommed at frat houses
Vommed in Mexico and possibly on some trousers
After your 21st you vommed for five hours - wowzas!
there's something on your shorts, ma'am

Somehow, together, we survived Millsaps nation
Best friends from freshman year to graduation

Now you're in New York, with your man and a new ring
And I'm so happy for you that I could sing!
(Just don't get any vom on your bling)
you're gonna marry that man!
I tease, but only because I love you Tait, and my love is hearty
I can’t wait to hold your hair after your bachelorette party.

BESTIES IN BOSTON BONANZA 2010

Last weekend the Awwads hit Boston and the ensuing bestie-fest involved an abundance of inappropriate conversations (both in person and via various social media), overindulgence of alcohol, terrible-for-you-(but ohso delicious)-food at absurd hours of the morning, and just a splash of touristy awkwardness.

Our behavior could be summed up in one word: undergrads.

Some unnamed snarky snarkmonster allegedly asked “Do they know they’re not in college anymore?”

Just wait, snarky snarkmonster. Ask that again when you’ve graduated.

If I had to do any period of my life over again, it would be college, no doubt. And I probably wouldn’t change much. College was the best time of my life. I would make the same choices, because they led me to the best friends I could ask for.

But if I had any one wish, I wouldn’t wish to just do college over. I would wish… well I guess I would wish for world peace so everyone didn’t think I was a total asshole. But if I had one selfish wish, I would wish that all my and all my favorite people’s chosen homes – Boston, NYC, Bradenton, Jackson, D.C., Memphis, Dallas, etc. – were all in the same state (a small one… more like Massachusetts than Texas). I just wish the amazing times from college could continue uninterrupted into adulthood. I wish we could have more weekends like this.
we are terriers!!
let's see if we remember how to do this...
